2025 DB Trey McNutt Talks Notre Dame & More

January 11, 2024

After visiting Notre Dame multiple times last year, Trey McNutt III‍ remains in contact with the Irish and expects to return to South Bend this year.

“It's going good,” McNutt said of his relationship with Notre Dame. “I'm still in touch with Coach (Marcus) Freeman and them. They always hit me up still and just text me and see how I'm doing and stuff.

“Really just been checking up on me. They'd been focused on their season and stuff. I get that. Other than that, we're just keeping the relationship in touch and just staying connected.”

McNutt was in South Bend for October’s game against USC after a trip to campus over the summer.

He said he will “definitely” be back, although there is nothing specific he needs to see.

“I've really seen it all because I've been there multiple times,” he said. “Just building more and more relationships. That's the best thing is to build relationships because that's what it comes down to is relationships.”

Notre Dame has been toward the top of the Shaker Heights star’s list for a while.

“The academics and just them being able to supply you for life after football,” he said.

“That's definitely important. It's a factor in my decision.”

Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, Penn State and several other schools remain in heavy pursuit of McNutt, but he wasn’t ready to say when or where he’ll be visiting next.

“I'm not sure yet,” he said.

“I'm just letting it play out itself, letting God take the way and just letting it play out.”
