2025 WR Jerome Bettis Jr. Previews Notre Dame Return
Jerome Bettis Jr. visited Notre Dame several times last year and will be back again this weekend.
“I'm super excited,” the 2025 Georgia receiver tells Irish Sports Daily. “Since the last time I've been there, I've gotten a little closer with some of the commits up, some of the recruits.
“I'm excited to see them again and I'm super excited to meet the new wide receiver coach down there.”
Bettis Jr., points to quarterback commit Deuce Knight, defensive line commit CJ May and safety commit Ethan Long.
“Obviously they're good players, but the more that I've gotten to know them, they're real good dudes, so I'm just excited to see them and hang out with them,” he says.
Catching passes from Knight is a tempting future for Bettis Jr.
“Obviously, that'd be amazing,” he says. “He's a highly-coveted quarterback. He's amazing, dual-threat. Having him back there running the offense, that'd be amazing.”
The Woodward Academy standout has had some early conversations with new Notre Dame receivers coach Mike Brown.
“I've gotten to know him a little bit, got on the phone with him, I know he's coming from Cincinnati,” Bettis Jr., says. “Obviously, he's a great coach. I'm just excited to build a relationship with him, get to know him, how he likes to coach his players and all that, so I'm excited.
“For the most part, we really talked about just getting to know each other before we can continue to move on from there. Kind of creating the basis of our relationship and then obviously this Junior Day is going to be really important, so I can see him face to face, get to know him even more, and so we can finally move into more of the football aspect of things. I'm excited, but that's what it's been so far.”
His initial impressions of Brown are positive.
“Great dude,” he says. “He's real cool, real easy to get along with. I really like him and I can tell just from who he is as a person that he's obviously a great coach and can easily get along with his players.”
Bettis Jr., says he could make his way down to Texas A&M for a visit next month. The Aggies offered him back in May and he was being recruited by Mike Elko’s staff at Duke.
He’s also considering visits to Louisville and Georgia Tech.
He doesn’t seem to be in a huge rush to make a final decision.
“I'd say I'm probably going to narrow it down this spring as recruiting starts to ramp up, just get to reach out to some of the schools that have been in contact with me and then from there, narrow things down and probably make a decision sometime over the summer.”
