Notre Dame Makes Strong Early Impression On 2025 WR Dylan Robinson

Danilo Robinson has a pretty clear idea of who and where he’d like to leave his son for college.

“As a dad, I want Dylan to be in a positive environment,” Mr. Robinson says.

Robinson’s son, 2025 California receiver Dylan Robinson‍, has plenty of options. Notre Dame is one of them and while the process needs to continue, the initial impressions are extremely positive on both sides.

“Notre Dame is a top-tier program and it's one of those historic programs,” says Mr. Robinson. “You definitely have to take that offer and that interest very seriously and you've got to definitely check that out.”

Mr. Robinson has felt that positive atmosphere around Notre Dame based on interactions with head coach Marcus Freeman, receivers coach Mike Brown, general manager Chad Bowden and others.

“That's the program that I've seen from the coaches that they've demonstrated to us and talked to us about,” Mr. Robinson says. “They've been straightforward, they've been honest, they've been obviously proactive.

“But we're looking forward to learning more about them. So far, so good. That's the kind of environment that anybody, I think anybody would want their son in. It's a positive environment.”

Freeman visited Bonita High School over the winter to check in on Robinson and Brown returned this spring. As a coach who works in the building, Mr. Robinson was able to see both as well.

“That was a great experience,” says Mr. Robinson. “Just getting a chance to get to know them and get to know Coach's program and the style program that they're running and all those types of things. It's been a great experience for us and we're looking forward to learning a lot more about them and just visiting some more and going out to South Bend.”

The Robinsons will make it out for a mid-week official visit beginning June 11th.

“Obviously the historic role that Notre Dame has played in College Football is just unbelievable,” Mr. Robinson says. “We are looking forward to learning more and visiting more with them.

“Obviously some of the things you look at is the team, the players who they have now on the roster, what kind of kids they have around there. Obviously academically, we're going to see if there's a good fit for Dylan and what he's interested in there. Just to make sure that academically it's a place that he could progress and get his degree and all those things on time and all those positive things. Then, I think probably the more interesting part of it is just where does he fit in their scheme and what's the future vision for his role on the team.”

Robinson is also set to take officials to Washington, Utah and UCLA over the next few weeks.

“As the offers and the opportunities have come in, we want to try to make sure that he sees as many of the opportunities as he can,” his father says. “But then after that, hopefully we'll just know once we get to do a couple of these visits. If the opportunity comes to commit early as far as late in the summer, I would hope that's kind of where we're headed towards.”

Athletics runs in the Robinson family.

Robinson’s parents were both college athletes at Utah State, where they met. His father played football while his mother ran track. They’ve been married for almost 20 years now and are proud of the athlete their son has become, but even more proud of him as a person.

“He takes education very seriously and education is obviously important to us and very serious to us as well,” his father says. “He's always been a pretty focused young man and a very good, humble kid. You won't see a ton of social media stuff and all that stuff. He's rather humble and a hardworking kid. So yes, we're very proud of him and we continue to build some good values with him.”

As big a part as athletics is in the family, Robinson’s cousin played volleyball at Oregon and Tennessee, so has public service. His parents are both teachers, he has two uncles in law enforcement and another who works for Children’s Services.

“I think Dylan's always seen a great deal of people who believe in public service and doing things. Hopefully a little bit of that's rubbed off on him and we could continue to see him grow that way.”
