One of Notre Dame’s newest offers is 2018 Lee County (N.C.) running back Jahmir Smith. The 6-foot, 195-pounder was offered by running backs coach Autry Denson, who felt the need to ask permission to recruit the three-star prospect.

“He had me call my mom, and we all talked on the phone,” Smith told Irish Sports Daily. “He asked my mom for permission to recruit me.

“She said ‘Yes’ and it was a pretty exciting moment.”

Denson had been in contact with Smith before the offer, and the relationship has got off to a good start.

“Coach Denson is a good guy,” explained Smith. “He talks about where he would use me at Notre Dame and stuff. He sends me motivational quotes every day.”

Smith was pretty excited himself about the opportunity to attend Notre Dame, and he’s looking forward to doing some research on the Irish in the coming weeks.

“My coach has told me a lot about Notre Dame, but I need to do some research on the school,” Smith stated. “I know they have a strong program and I want to learn some more stuff.”

As a junior, Smith put up some pretty gaudy numbers as he rushed for 2,130 yards and 41 touchdowns. The key to Smith’s success is pretty simple.

“I make one cut, and have a strong burst so I can get into the secondary,” he said.

With mind-blowing stats, Smith holds offers from the likes of Cal, Duke, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, N.C. State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Northwestern, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Smith was just in the Midwest visiting a few schools as he wants to visit Notre Dame.

“Duke, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Northwestern, and Wisconsin are recruiting me the hardest right now,” stated Smith. “Notre Dame is too.

“I have visited most of the in-state schools. I have been to Virginia Tech and Wake Forest too. I went to Northwestern and Wisconsin. I was going to visit Notre Dame, but I didn’t have time to on that trip.

“I want to try to get to Notre Dame later this spring or summer.”

As if the football numbers weren’t impressive enough, Smith carries over a 4.0 GPA and academics will be an important part of his final decision.

“I have a 4.43 GPA,” said Smith. “Academics are going to be a factor in my decision. I have thought about majoring in medical stuff. I am into Biology, but I am still thinking about my major.

“I want a good balance of football and academics. I am looking for a family vibe within the team and coaches. I want to go to school in a nice area too. It doesn’t matter too much, but it’s just one of my pet peeves. I want to be comfortable wherever I go.”
