2027 QB Trae Taylor Talks Notre Dame, Irish Invasion Performance
Trae Taylor has been to Notre Dame multiple times already during his recruitment and the 2027 Illinois quarterback was back again for Irish Invasion on Sunday.
Taylor said the event went “great.”
“I was able to get a chance to spin it with some of the best; Deuce Knight and Noah (Grubbs),” he said, mentioning the Irish’s quarterback commits in the 2025 and 2026 classes, respectively.
“It was great. I was up there with them. I think during one-on-ones, I had one incompletion maybe out of the many reps I got. It was a really, really great day and I was able to get some good work with Coach Gino (Guidugli).”
The Carmel Catholic standout has a lengthy list of early scholarship offers from schools like Michigan, Miami, Maryland, NC State, Illinois, Colorado and Vanderbilt among others.
He was very appreciative for the time he got to work with Guidugli.
“It was amazing,” Taylor said. “It was a lot like last year with the drills, but it felt more intense. It felt like all eyes were on me. I was just glad I was able to go out there and compete and do the best I can.
“I think he's an amazing coach. I think that he's a connections guy and a big family guy. I feel like once you start to build that connection, it is like being his little brother, but now off the field. And then on the field, it's just like you're the coach. It's amazing how he can flip the switch that fast. On the field, we're serious, we're locked in. And then off the field it's, 'Hey Trae, how are we doing?' It's good.
“That's what you like to see out of a coach. It feels like he's going to be there for you whenever you need anything.”
Taylor has a busy camp schedule the rest of the month.
“I go to Kentucky,” he said. “I'll be going to UNC, Duke, NC State, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan's Barbecue, Oklahoma, and LSU.”
But he’ll be back in South Bend this fall, possibly multiple times.
“We're going to for sure come back for some games. We're for sure coming back for the Florida State game, maybe the NIU game, but as of right now, that's all I know.”
