2026 WR Zachary Washington Shows Speed at Irish Invasion

June 8, 2024

2026 St. Francis (Ill.) receiver Zachary Washington‍ made his way over to Notre Dame for last weekend’s Irish Invasion camp and showcased his speed to the Fighting Irish staff.

“I feel like I performed well today,” Washington stated. “I think it was one of my best camps so far this camp season.”

Washington recorded a 4.5 40 and then a 4.31 shuttle time, which is exactly what he wanted to do. The Illinois native also got deep on a few cornerbacks during one-on-ones to back up his testing times.

“I was hoping to prove my speed in the 40-yard dash,” said Washington. “Iwanted to prove myself in one-on-ones, my speed and route ability and my hands.”

Notre Dame receivers coach Mike Brown left an impression on Washington with his teaching style and one method really stuck out to the three-star prospect.

“I like his coaching style a lot,” explained Washington. “He breaks it down and if you mess up, he’ll show you how to do it correctly. I like how he uses steps instead of yardage.”

Why is it easier to learn steps vs. yardage? For Washington, it’s simple.

“I feel like steps are easier to not think about or look down at your feet to see where you are,” Washington said.

Washington also was able to have a big day due to the quarterback play. Notre Dame commits Deuce Knight and Noah Grubbs stood out to him as well as 2027 signal caller Zac Katz.

“The quarterbacks were great,” Washington explained. “No. 2, Deuce and Noah - I can see why they’re committed here. They were really good. The other quarterbacks performed really well and I got a couple good balls on the post. I liked the quarterbacks there.”

The next step for Washington will be to make a trip to the defending national champions for camp.

“I have Michigan set in two weeks,” said Washington. “After that, I have nothing else.”
