Elijah Burress‍ returned to Notre Dame for an official visit and the 2025 Irish receiver commit was not disappointed.

“It was great, man,” Burress told Irish Sports Daily. “I had a great time with the guys and the coaches.

“We got to see the campus, just talking about football a lot, talking about how things are going to go up there and just hanging out with recruits, doing things going on campus. We did it all.”

Continuing to connect with his future teammates is important to the New Jersey native.

“To build some chemistry because on the field you want to be with some guys who are close,” he said of the goal. “It's like a family, you know what I'm saying? We're just trying to get our chemistry and bond up now so we don't have to do it anytime later.”

The DePaul Catholic star certainly enjoyed his meetings with new Notre Dame receivers coach Mike Brown.

“They were great,” he said. “He was just showing me once again his philosophy as a coach and how I can get better and stuff like that. He was just showing me his plan for me as a receiver and things like that.

“There are certain things we should be doing or certain mark points I should be at throughout my years. Three or four years there, we'll see how it goes, but I should just be developing.”

Burress also appreciated the opportunity to sit down with head coach Marcus Freeman again.

“We were talking about football, talking about family and life,” he explained. “My whole family was there, so we had a lot of good conversations about how my sister was doing, my mom, my dad, and just us as a family. Not only football, it was everything.”

Burress’ whole family, of course, includes his father, former Michigan State and Pittsburgh Steelers star receiver Plaxico Burress. The weekend provided an opportunity for the elder Burress to reconnect with former Steelers greats Jerome Bettis and Ike Taylor, whose sons are also committed to the Irish.

“It was great,” Elijah Burress said of that connection. “As soon as I met Ivan (Taylor) and Jerome (Bettis Jr.), I felt like we've known each other forever. It was weird. I don't really feel like that for a lot of people, but as soon as I saw them, I felt like I've known them for a while.

“Us being able to get that picture and us to have that bond, we know what it means to be a part of the Steelers family, so it just makes us closer. Me and Jerome were just watching (our dads talk). They were like OGs, just talking about their old times and stuff like that. And they just have fun watching us.”

Burress isn’t sure when he’ll be back, but wants to return in the fall, possibly more than once.

“I hope I'm up there for a game this year. I probably will be up there for a game, probably two or three home games.”
