Elijah Burress‍ put in the work this offseason and now the 2025 Notre Dame receiver commit is ready to put that hard work on display.

“I definitely put some weight on,” the DePaul Catholic (N.J.) High School star says. “I knew that was a big point for me so I put a lot of weight on. My strength is way better. Even if you look at me from last year compared to this year, you'll see a difference in my physique.

“Skill-wise, it is definitely my quickness and my speed. I ran track. I won States, so my speed and of course my route-running.”

Burress is excited to showcase his ability to be a complete receiver.

“I'm really going to evolve myself, run blocking,” he says. “I'm definitely going to make an impact in a run game. I just want to be a great receiver and impact the game on every single level that I could.”

But if you talk to those around DePaul Catholic, they’ll tell you they think they could have utilized Burress more as a playmaker last season and are eager to do so this year.

“I'm definitely going to be all over the field, playing multiple positions,” says Burress. “I'm just ready to be the person I'm supposed to be.”

Burress may have private individual goals, but those are not his focus.

“I just want to win a state championship,” he says.

And he believes he has a team that can do it.

“I think the team is going to be good,” he says. “Of course, we have high expectations, but we just want to grow as a unit and grow as a team. We just want to be the best team we can be. We just want to gel together and be great.”

Burress doesn’t have a date to return to South Bend yet, but says he will be back this fall.

“I'm looking to go up there for one of these home games,” he says. “I don't know which one yet, but probably for Florida State or Louisville. I'm excited to get up there again, but I just don't know when exactly.

“It's going to be exciting, but I'm also just going to get myself prepared because I want to be on that stage. I want to make plays in front of the crowd, so it's going to be very exciting.”
