Coach | 2026 Notre Dame OL Target Sullivan Garvin A "Great" Student-Athlete
Tony Danzig knew Sullivan Garvin long before serving as Garvin’s head coach at Allegan High School.
“I've been one of his teachers since he's been in sixth grade,” Danzig says of the 2026 Michigan offensive lineman. “He's always just been a kid who keeps his nose to the grind. He's always been a football guy, either going out to outside of organizational leagues, playing and trying to get himself better in the summer.
“Here, he just leads constantly with the guys with this weight room effort, staying after practice, helping other guys. They come in on the weekends and get extra work in the field. He's been doing this since he was a freshman and I brought him up on the varsity.”
The 6-foot-5, 295-pounder has more than just the right attitude though.
“He just has that ability,” Danzig says. “He's quick, he's big, he's got great hands. He's definitely a D-I guy and he's an all-in small town guy. That's what I really like about him.
“I knew he was going to play college football somewhere. Division I was where I thought he'd end up. When he started lifting and getting bigger and doing his speed workouts and his feet got better at the end of last year, I knew something big was going to happen.”
Notre Dame definitely sees him as a D-I guy, which is why the Irish offered Garvin a scholarship during a visit to South Bend last weekend.
Garvin already had offers from schools like Indiana, Miami-Ohio, Toledo and Akron among others. After landing the offer from Notre Dame, Washington came through with an offer of its own.
Danzig sees a potential fit in South Bend.
“He's a real community guy,” the coach says of Garvin. “He loves the small town atmosphere. Notre Dame kind of fits that. It's a small town, but it's a Division-I university and I think he'll blend well with that if that's his final decision. He seemed very excited when he called me and told me the good news.
“He's in AP classes. All of his grades are A's or B's. If he does have an area of weakness, he utilizes the school. We have academic coaches, if he needs any of that, he takes advantage of that immediately. He's a definitely a student-athlete, a great one.”
