2027 DL & Notre Dame Legacy Richie Flanigan Sees Recruitment Take Off

The offers have started coming in for Richie Flanigan‍.

The 2027 Wisconsin defensive lineman has been receiving interest from major schools for several months now and last month, he received his first scholarship offers from Duke, Illinois and Wisconsin.

“I guess it hasn't really set in that it's all starting now for me,” Flanigan says. “But it's been great to see the process with my brother so I know what I need to do and what it's going to be like.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pounder is the son of former Notre Dame linebacker James Flanigan and the younger brother of the incoming Irish freshman tight end by the same name, so he’s quite familiar with Notre Dame.

“Obviously, when my brother went for visits and games, I was there with him and I talked to them a little bit,” Flanigan says of the Irish. “I've just been around the campus a lot.

“It's a really cool place. The campus is really nice and obviously the degree means a lot. It's one of the top degrees you can get in the United States and it's a great atmosphere.”

Flanigan admits that his family connections make the Irish a bit more attractive.

“It'd definitely be a factor or something I would consider when picking a school,” he says. “Not many people get to go D-I or even get to go D-I to play with their brother so it would definitely be a really cool thing.”

Notre Dame assistant general manager Carter Auman stopped by Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay during last month’s contact period.

Flanigan could play a couple positions in college, but acknowledges having a clear preference.

“I definitely want to play defense at a three-technique,” he says. “That's just what I want to do, but I'll play anywhere they want me to.”

There are a few things that will matter to Flanigan when it’s time to choose.

“I want to go to a school that has a good football program, but also has really good academics and they challenge the football students just as much as they challenge the other students who are on campus.”
