Notre Dame is plenty familiar with Brophy Prep and one of the Arizona power’s next top prospects is becoming plenty familiar with Notre Dame.

2026 Brophy receiver Devin Fitzgerald‍ has made multiple trips to South Bend over the past year, including a visit for the Irish’s Junior Day last month.

Fitzgerald has racked up dozens of scholarship offers already from schools like Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, UNLV, Florida State, Duke and Vanderbilt among several others.

Brophy head coach Jason Jewell points to Fitzgerald’s work ethic to explain his emergence over the past year.

“He's a big receiver,” Jewell says. “He's 6-foot-2. He's 190 pounds. He's made tremendous progress in the last year; changed his body and was an impact player for us as a junior where he was a spot player for us as a sophomore.”

This past season, Fitzgerald caught 52 passes for 720 yards and nine touchdowns.

“He came on strong and turned into one of the best receivers in the state of Arizona,” says Jewell. “He's got hands, hands, hands, hands, just like his dad.”

Fitzgerald’s father, of course, is legendary NFL receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

“He wants to be his own person and that's only fair for a teenage kid,” Jewell says. “But obviously Larry's very influential with him.”

Jewell acknowledges he didn’t always know Fitzgerald would reach the point he’s at now.

“From the time he applied here in eighth grade to where he is now, he's grown four inches and leaned out,” the coach says. “He didn't always look like he does now.

“To say that I knew he was going to make this impact, Devin would probably say 'Yeah,' he knew that. But I wasn't 100 percent certain until after we'd gone through the offseason of his sophomore year to see what he'd grown into and he was dominant during our spring and summer stuff.”

Notre Dame has found success at Brophy over the years, signing former cornerback Ben Morrison and future cornerback Cree Thomas from the school.

“They're regulars here and our president is a Notre Dame grad as well,” Jewell says of the Irish. “I've been giving them his name since they have been coming around.”

And Notre Dame is clearly on Fitzgerald’s radar.

“I know academics are a big priority, so obviously big-time football, they just finished runner-ups and then great academics. I think the combination is great, which is also why he goes to Brophy. We're a great academic school as well and play the highest level of football.

“I think that's probably the biggest pull and intrigue.”
