Mike Brown didn’t waste any time talking about what Notre Dame could offer Trenton Yancey‍ beyond the scholarship the Irish receivers coach was offering the 2027 Texas receiver at the time.

“Coach Brown was talking about how Notre Dame was a five-star rated school in academics and that they produce great football talent too,” the Duncanville High School star said of his conversation with Brown around his St. Patrick’s Day offer from the Irish.

“It was really great knowing that I had an offer from a school that's coming from academics and has a good academic path.”

The 6-foot, 180-pounder has a lengthy list of scholarship offers from schools like Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Oklahoma, LSU, Ole Miss, Florida, Miami, Tennessee, Penn State, Michigan, Oregon and USC among many others.

Brown made a solid first impression on Yancey.

“He's a coach who wants to get me out there, work with me and develop me into the person who could possibly be in The League,” he said.

Yancey wants to get to South Bend for a visit, but isn’t sure when that will be just yet.

“Really just getting out there, building relationships, getting to know the culture that they have, the Irish culture and all of that,” he said of what’s next for him and Notre Dame.

He’s already made visits to SMU and LSU this spring with trips to Texas A&M, Tennessee and Oregon expected next.

Coaches like the playmaking ability Yancey brings to the field.

“They talk about how when I catch the ball I can make a few people miss, and then the speed after the catch,” he said.

“Mostly me going to get the ball, the way I high-point and the aggression that I have for the game.”

But Yancey already has an eye beyond football. He wants to study Engineering in college and identified education as a key piece of his ultimate decision.

“Some of the biggest factors will be playing time and my academics,” he said.

“Being on the field early and academics would be the biggest things and a good coach who would develop me and coach me as hard as he possibly could.”
