2028 St. Joseph Regional (N.J.) linebacker Tahj Gray‍ entered last week’s Irish Invasion as a prospect to watch and he left with an offer from Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder turned in an impressive performance at both linebacker and defensive end, solidifying his status as a name on Notre Dame’s board.

“I feel like I did great,” Gray said. “Just getting more info on what the coaches said, taking it in and using it to my advantage, so that's what I did today.”

Perhaps what sold Notre Dame’s coaches on offering Gray was his attention the detail and the ability to implement coaching on the fly.

“They were telling me just stay inside leverage,” explained Gray. “Let's take what they give us and attack the ball, so aggressive. That's what I did.”

Notre Dame’s coaches also saw Gray turn in an impressive performance during one-on-ones. The loaded defensive line room made sure each player turned it up a notch as things got very competitive at the end of camp.

“The competition was great,” Gray explained. “Everybody came there to do something. Everybody came there to work. I saw it. When we were doing the one-on-ones, everybody was trying to get theirs. Everybody started being competitive and very aggressive across the board. It was great.”

The New Jersey native was definitely fired up after camp as not only did he earn the offer, but his older brother, Chaz Gray‍, also was offered.

“Just the outcome of everything,” Gray stated. “Coming out here with the offer, not a lot of people get to do that. I'm just taking advantage and using it to the best of my ability and just really not taking it for granted.”

Gray not only understands the magnitude of an offer from Notre Dame, but he knows why the program is successful after getting a small glimpse of life behind the scenes.

“I felt like that school was very traditional,” said Gray. “They were all about their culture. I was taking in information from the coaches. They really take their time and step-by-step teach you. You just got to listen and do it on the field. I felt like it was just as a whole, like the community, everybody's nice. The community is nice.”

Notre Dame was likely the final summer stop for the Gray family and it ended on a positive note with the Grill and Chill event following Irish Invasion.

“The grill and chill was great,” said Gray. “It was great. Just getting to know coaches more than other kids do. They just sat down with us and just talked about life. It's not all about football. Just being a better man.”
