2028 QB JJ Chapman Enjoys Early Notre Dame Experience
JJ Chapman has a couple early offers, but the 2028 Wisconsin quarterback wants more, which is why he was at Notre Dame for Irish Invasion earlier this month.
“I felt like it went pretty well,” Chapman told Irish Sports Daily of his performance at the showcase event.
“I love the coaching staff. Just being able to work with them and then work with some of their players currently was cool. I had a great time.”
Chapman appreciated the attitude of the coaching staff in South Bend.
“Honestly, just their energy,” he said of what stood out about the coaches. “They're really cool people. Coach (Gino) Guidugli, assistant quarterback coach, Coach (Marcus) Freeman, they're just cool people. They're down to earth.
“They were having fun within their drills. They weren't being too strict, but they're also coaching you up and making sure that you're striving for your absolute best, which I thought was pretty cool.”
Chapman, who has early offers from Purdue and Toledo, was pleased with his performance.
“I think I did pretty well,” he said. “Obviously I got there, got stretched. We went up through some warmups, and then we kind of hopped right into drills right away. Overall, I think I did pretty well.”
The 6-foot-1, 192-pounder received positive feedback from Guigudli.
“Coach Guidugli just told me, 'Keep doing what you're doing. You improved your stock,'” Chapman explained. “And he said, 'Just have a great season with your team.'”
Beyond working out for the staff, the Oak Creek High School standout was able to get a peek at Notre Dame.
“We went into the locker room, we toured the stadium and then we went through the facilities,” he said. “It's a beautiful place. I just like the vibe of Notre Dame.”
Chapman also hit camps at Purdue, Boston College, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin this month.
He’s feeling good about the Irish and wants to keep building relationships.
“Honestly, just staying in touch,” he said of the next step for him and Notre Dame.
“Continuing to talk to Coach Guidugli and then coming down for a game probably, having a great season, getting some film out, and then just seeing what the next step from there is.”
