Notre Dame Lands Big-Time LHP Transfer Noah Rooney
The college baseball Transfer Portal is filled with players, but quality left-handed pitchers are few and far between.
Notre Dame has secured one of the top arms in the portal as Minnesota graduate transfer LHP Noah Rooney has committed to the Fighting Irish.
In 2024 as a redshirt junior, Rooney finished 4-1 while recording an impressive 2.94 ERA and striking out 36 in 49 innings.
For his career, the 6-foot, 170-pounder has totaled 108.2 IP, struck out 80 with an ERA of 3.73.
Rooney will immediately help the Irish bullpen out as they desperately have needed left-handed arms over the last two seasons. The Irish lost Justin Mayes and Tore Indomenico to the portal earlier this summer, so it was crucial to land another arm as only Brady Koester remains on the team from last year’s team.
Notre Dame will add three freshmen lefties this summer as Gian Gamelli, Dylan Singleton and Caden Crowell are set to arrive on campus. Crowell is the gem of the class, but his future with the Irish will likely be decided the second week of July when the MLB Draft kicks off.
Rooney will join his former Minnesota teammate, Drew Berkland, in South Bend as part of Notre Dame’s graduate transfer class.
