Notre Dame’s June recruiting run has been special.
That momentum has now trickled into the 2027 recruiting class as Williamson (Ala.) linebacker Ellis McGaskin has given a verbal pledge to Notre Dame.
The relationship between the four-star backer and Notre Dame extends back to May of 2024, when linebackers coach Max Bullough made the trip down to Mobile to check on him.
That led to the 6-foot, 200-pounder making his first trip to South Bend earlier this month and that’s all McGaskin needed to experience.
Notre Dame’s prestige and academics can impress many, but it was the people who sold McGaskin.
“Everybody coming together and showing me I was a priority - everybody was showing love from the supporters, the parents, the coaches, and I even got to connect with Coach Freeman,” stated McGaskin following the visit. “As much as he was moving around, it meant a lot.”
Bullough has developed a strong relationship with the Alabama native, which is a significant reason for the early pledge.
“My relationship with Coach Max Bullough is through the sky,” said McGaskin, who tallied 130 tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss, four sacks and three forced fumbles in 2024. “I couldn’t wait to come up here and connect with those guys. They showed me another world.
“Outside of being a coach, he’s a loud guy and someone you would love being around. That’s the type of coach I’m looking for.”
There is still plenty of time before the class of 2027 signs, but McGaskin believes he’s found the right fit.
“The things I’ve seen, I love,” McGaskin said. “So far, I haven’t been anywhere like it.”
Career Stats: 273 tackles, 34.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and five forced fumbles.
