Notre Dame was patient in waiting to offer their top 2027 quarterback targets, but it didn't take them long after to land an outstanding prospect in Teddy Jarrard

Just about everyone questioned Notre Dame’s strategy with 2027 quarterback recruiting. They can’t argue with the result.

It took a long time for them to hone on in their top choices, but Teddy Jarrard‍ was at the top of the list and he’s now become a foundational piece for Notre Dame to build their recruiting class around. A multi-sport athlete (baseball) who recently shined as the top quarterback at the Rivals 5-star camp, Jarrard is an outstanding prospect.

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 190

Projected Position: Quarterback

ISD Grade: 92 (4-star)

National Average Grade: 90.3 (4-star)

What he does best:

Jarrard completed 71.8% of his passes as a sophomore. He throws an accurate, catchable ball and he puts his receivers in position to win routinely with his ball placement on fades.

He’s a good athlete with a good feel for the rush and the ability to improvise outside of the structure of the play.

While not a traditional dual-threat, he’s a good athlete who does a nice job of escaping the rush. I would classify him as someone more likely to move the chains with his legs than scare teams as a runner, but he has some giddy up.

He has a plus arm, but his ability to get rid of the ball with anticipation over the middle of the field jumps out. An offense will have no limitations with him as a player because of his ability to make throws like that from within the pocket, but also because he is very capable when throwing outside of the pocket as well.

What he needs to improve:

He can sometimes fade away and throw off his backfoot when he doesn’t necessarily need to. He loses zip on some of those throws and he’ll need to tighten that up as time goes on.

That’s one of the tiny things mechanically that sticks out where he loses velocity on some throws. He has more than enough arm talent to make every throw asked of him, but I’d like to see it be a bit more consistent.

What’s his ceiling?

Jarrard is an advanced prospect in a lot of ways, but I still feel he’s nowhere close to reaching his potential on the field. He’s already on his way to making a big jump as a junior and he should end up as one of the highest ranked recruits at the position in the 2027 cycle.

His athleticism and the speed at which he processes things from the pocket makes me believe he could compete early in his career with an opportunity to become a multi-year starter. In a lot of ways he reminds me of former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli, but a better athlete and better at avoiding the rush.

I think the player he has the potential to end up being the most similar to at Notre Dame based on his skill set is the best version of (current Miami) former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck. He was ranked in the top-10 in QBR in 2023 and his adjusted completion percentage was 80.6% that season.

Since I’m sure some Notre Dame fans will have a problem with it, I’m making sure to that he’s labeled as a former Georgia QB.
