After a multi-day visit to Notre Dame back in the spring, Marcus Fakatou is set to return to South Bend next month.
The elite 2028 California defensive lineman will be back on campus for the Irish’s opener against Texas A&M on Sept. 13th after spending a few days in town back in March.
“I just like the community they have, it's a small community,” the Orange Lutheran standout told Irish Sports Daily. “Everyone knows each other out there and I think that's a really good thing to be around and everyone's nice to each other.”
He’s excited to return.
“Man, I just love the environment they're in and just South Bend itself,” Fakatou said. “I definitely want to check it out, how the crowd is out there.”
The youngster already has dozens of scholarship offers from major programs across the country, including Notre Dame, USC, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia and Alabama among several others.
Notre Dame has been keeping in touch with Fakatou plenty, led by defensive line assistant Nick Sebastian.
“Man, it's been amazing,” Fakatou said of the communication between himself and the Irish. “They've been recruiting me pretty hard. I've been talking with Coach Sebastian the most.
“I think the one thing I like about them is they hit me up about family and stuff, not always about football. I think that's a key thing in my recruitment, coaches that question me about family and stuff, not just football alone.”
Even with so many other offers already, Fakatou doesn’t have a ton of visits lined up just yet.
“As of right now, I think Ole Miss, but that's not for sure yet,” he said.
He does have an idea of what will matter most when decision time comes.
“I'd definitely say education and football for sure. But, then also school that's going to set me up as a man for my future.”
