Talented 2019 Florida RB Grabbing Attention

Chez Mellusi has caught the attention of schools across the country and Notre Dame is one school that has the 2019 Florida running back’s attention as well.

“I’ve received a couple letters from them,” the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder from Naples said of the Irish. “They wanted me to come up and see a game, but I wasn’t able to.”

Mellusi says he’s been interested in Notre Dame for a while.

“First, it’s the academics at the school,” he said. “That’s all they’re about up there basically…academics is a big reason I like the school.”

The Naples High School standout already has offers from Miami, Michigan, Boston College, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Rutgers, Arizona, North Carolina and Virginia.

“Some of them were surprising,” he admitted. “The big ones were surprising, but there’s nothing to it. I don’t really think about it too much.”

Mellusi describes himself the way many describe current Irish running back Tony Jones Jr.

“I’m a bigger back and I can do more than just run the football,” he said. “I can be put in the slot or just go to receiver.”

He hasn’t taken many visits yet, but says he could get to Miami soon.

If Notre Dame was to offer, he says it’s a school he would “absolutely” want to visit.

“I want to see the relationships the players have with the coaches,” he said. “I’m really big on that. I’m big on the family type of thing.”

It’s too early for Mellusi to have a firm timeline for a decision.

“I don’t think anytime soon, but if I start visiting and a school really catches my eye, maybe,” he said.

But he knows what he’s looking for.

“Definitely the family thing and how I have a relationship with my coach and how I trust him,” he said.

He doesn’t have any favorites at this point, but some have his attention for than others.

“The big ones that I have are Michigan, Miami and North Carolina, but not too much. When I start visiting, maybe.”
