Jackson Vaughn‍ has been high on Notre Dame for a while now.

The elite 2028 New Jersey edge rusher had the chance to take in a game in South Bend for the first time on Saturday night and despite their last-minute loss to Texas A&M, it did nothing to sour his thoughts on the Irish.

“I think everything went pretty well,” the Bergen Catholic star told Irish Sports Daily. “The outcome wasn't the way that we wanted it to be, but it was still a good experience.

“I would say the highlights were getting to meet with Coach (Marcus) Freeman before the game and I would definitely say their walkout is pretty cool.”

Vaughn and Freeman spent time talking about a connection as well as the future.

“We started talking about (former Notre Dame defensive lineman) Javontae Jean-Bapiste a little because he went to Bergen and I got the opportunity to talk to him,” Vaughn said.

“We were just connecting over him and then we were just talking about me and how he sees me there and stuff like that.”

The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder’s impressions of Freeman are positive.

“He seems like a humble guy,” Vaughn said of the Notre Dame head coach. “I would say he's a cool guy.”

Vaughn also enjoyed the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium.

“It was pretty good,” he said. “That's the first night game I've ever been to. It got pretty loud at some points in the game, so I would definitely say that was pretty cool.”

He was able to speak with some of the other recruits in attendance.

“I got a chance to connect with some of the d-linemen who were 27s,” he said. “They were just talking about their experiences here and just what they think about everything.”

Vaughn already has a lengthy and impressive list of scholarship offers that includes Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Florida, Florida State, Miami, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Oregon and Washington among several others.

He’ll be at Penn State for its White Out game against Oregon in a couple weeks.

But his interest in the Irish remains high.

“I think Notre Dame's a great opportunity to have academics and high-level football, so I would say it's pretty high.”
