2-Sport Star, Notre Dame Target Tyler Fryman Has Decisions To Make

Some schools are recruiting 2027 athlete Tyler Fryman as a receiver. Some schools are recruiting him as a safety. Some are recruiting him as a baseball player. And some schools like Notre Dame are recruiting him for both sports.

While most high school recruits are focused on choosing a school, Tyler Fryman‍ first needs to decide which sport - or sports - he’ll play in college before doing so.

The 2027 Kentucky athlete has been committed to play baseball at Louisville since eighth grade, but now has college football programs chasing him, including Notre Dame, Louisville, Miami-Ohio and Toledo, who have all offered scholarships.

As part of his due diligence, the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder made the trip to South Bend to catch the Irish’s home opener against Texas A&M.

“It was amazing,” Fryman told Irish Sports Daily. “Honestly, that was my first time ever experiencing college football, so for that being the first time, it was really cool.

“I heard a lot of big things, especially about a big school like Notre Dame, but I didn't expect it. It was pretty cool. The atmosphere and the culture, all the fans and everybody were into it. It was special.”

A wide receiver target, Fryman had the chance to speak with receivers coach Mike Brown, quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli and even head coach Marcus Freeman.

“I got to say what's up to Coach Freeman, that was sick,” he said. “They were just asking how everything was going, how the season was going, asking about the record and everything.

“Just as people, they're down to earth, amazing people. They're just normal dudes to talk to, another great group.”

Fryman also spent time with some of the other visiting recruits and felt it was a group he could fit in with.

“For sure,” he said. “Just a bunch of competitors going at it.”

While Fryman will need to decide what he wants to do in college before choosing a college, he doesn’t seem to be in a major rush to do either just yet.

“Just really having fun with it right now,” he said. “I'm not too worried about it right now, especially since football season is still going on and then I still have baseball season.

“I would say in the summer I'd have to make a decision then, but right now, just talking to coaches and seeing how everything is and seeing how all the campuses are is the biggest thing right now.”

Notre Dame has talked to him about playing both sports in South Bend, as has Louisville.

“I would consider that, especially coming in as a freshman, because I love both sports,” he said.

He knows current Irish freshman Brandon Logan is on that path now.

“He's one of my friends,” Fryman said of Logan. “I've been talking to him about it and he said that's the best place to go for two sports.”

Fryman will be visiting Louisville and Cincinnati for games next, but will stay in contact with the Irish.

“The next step definitely is just to keep in touch with the coaches. I might have to go to another game to see how it is and everything. But especially talking with some of the guys, it's a special place.”
