Jaeden Byrd got the chance to get a peek at Notre Dame during last month’s home game against Purdue.
“It was good,” the 2027 Michigan cornerback told Irish Sports Daily afterward.
“I got to see the coaches, see the players in action. It was really electric there.”
The Brighton High School product had the chance to speak with one member of the Irish hierarchy while on campus.
“I was mainly talking to the GM, Mike Martin,” said Byrd. “Talking to him about the Detroit Lions and how he spent time there.
“I thought he was a really nice guy, he was really easy to talk to. It's not usually easy to talk to coaches while they're trying to do what they do for gameday and get ready to play this team, but he was really easy to talk to.”
The 6-foot, 175-pounder was impressed with the atmosphere of the game and the game itself.
“The student section was really hyped,” Byrd said. “The fans were hyped. It just was electric all around. The helicopters coming in was so cool. That's something you never experience anywhere else.
“I think Notre Dame played really good. They blew Purdue out the water, for real.”
Byrd has an early from Kent State and has received interest from Big Ten schools. He has some other visits lined up for this season.
“Northwestern, Toledo, Minnesota and Rutgers,” he said when asked of upcoming trips.
He’ll try to stay in touch with Notre Dame.
“Just keep building a bond with the coaches as much as I can,” he said.
Byrd’s interest in Notre Dame goes beyond football and even academics.
“I would consider myself really religious,” he said. “I like to preach about God here and there. I like the campus too.”
But academics will be a primary factor in his ultimate decision.
“I feel like if I get my scholarship it'd take me a long way because football only lasts so long.”
