2027 Notre Dame OL Target Layton von Brandt Taking Measured Approach
After seeing Notre Dame up close on a fall gameday, Layton Von Brandt is now focused on learning more about how the program operates on a day-to-day basis as he maps out his next round of visits.
“Everything’s going good,” the 2027 Delaware offensive tackle told Irish Sports Daily. “Just taking it day by day and continuing to build relationships.”
Those relationships remain active with the Irish, where von Brandt has stayed in consistent contact with several members of the coaching staff.
“The good thing about Notre Dame is I talk to everybody a little bit equally,” he said. “The coaches I probably talk to most are Coach (Joe) Rudolph, Coach (Marcus) Freeman and Coach (Mike) Denbrock.”
The message from that group has stayed consistent throughout the recruiting process.
“Just keep attacking every day,” von Brandt said. “Be the best person I can be every day and that they can help me go where I want to go.
“Obviously, Notre Dame being a historic and great school, that’s another part of it too.”
The Middletown, Del., native came away impressed by the people around the program during his visit to South Bend.
“They’re great people,” he said. “That was my first impression when I went on a visit. There were great people everywhere you walked on campus and in the facilities.”
The 6-foot-6, 270-pounder plans to return to campus this spring.
“I think I’m going to go on a spring practice visit there,” he said.
That trip, he explained, would provide a clearer picture of what daily life inside the program looks like.
“Just see how Coach Rudolph works,” von Brandt said of what he’d like to see. “Gameday visits are really cool, but practice is every day. That’s where you’re preparing for the game, so I really want to see how practice goes and how they coach.”
The Appoquinimink High School standout has navigated a shifting recruiting landscape as coaching changes ripple across college football with schools he’s familiar with getting new coaches and coaches he’s familiar with landing at new schools.
“It’s a blessing,” he said. “Already having the offer and liking the school, then another coaching staff coming in that I may not have known much about. It’s cool knowing that regardless of where they coach, I’m still a priority to the school.”
Von Brandt’s offer sheet includes schools like Notre Dame, Penn State - where he was once committed – Florida, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, LSU, Tennessee and Auburn.
As for a decision timeline, he has a general window in mind without rushing specifics.
“I’m looking to commit before my senior season. As far as a date, I don’t have one.”
