Breaking: Hubb Commits to Notre Dame

Mike Brey and Notre Dame landed 2018 Gonzaga College High (D.C.) point guard Prentiss Hubb on Wednesday evening.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder chose the Irish over Cincinnati, Georgetown, Maryland, N.C. State, Penn State, Virginia, and Xavier.

Steve Turner, Hubb’s head coach, believes the Hubb is much more than point guard and Brey is getting a player that can do many things for the Irish.

“His ability to not just be a one-dimensional player,” the coach said as to what’s allowed Hubb to become a national prospect. “Certainly, he’s a point guard first. He has the ability to make other guys around him better.

“With that ability, he also has the ability to score the ball and can score it at all three levels. One thing that doesn’t always get talked about is his ability to defend. He’s a long, lefty athlete, he gets his hands on a lot of balls. The other thing I think goes unnoticed is I think he’s one of the best rebounding guards in the country. His versatility is what I think has gotten him an opportunity to get recruited at an elite level.”

The lefty averaged 13.9 points a game for Gonzaga in 2016-17, but it will be Hubb’s show in 2017-19, as 2017 point guard Chris Lykes has graduated.
