Brandon Nash welcomed a visit from Notre Dame earlier this week as the Irish continued to lay groundwork with emerging defensive backs in the 2028 cycle.
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman stopped by the 2028 California safety’s school and left a message that immediately stood out.
“Pretty much how coming from Bosco, it’s kind of just the right fit for Notre Dame because we’re a Catholic school,” Nash said. “You get that same aspect there, the importance of faith, and then of course the football program.
“You’re competing at a level where the goal is to win national championships every single year.”
The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder said the visit reinforced views he already held about the program.
“I’ve never heard a single bad thing about Notre Dame in my life,” Nash said. “All I’ve heard is it’s the best of the best, whether it’s academics, the people there, football, everything.
“I have so much respect for that school.”
The St. John Bosco star has been particularly impressed by Freeman.
“I think Coach Freeman is awesome,” Nash said. “He’s very professional and is able to relate to us.
“I feel like he’s a great coach.”
Nash said Notre Dame has been transparent about what appeals to them about his game, particularly his versatility and physical approach.
“A lot of my film comes from the safety position, but I’ve also played outside linebacker and Nickel,” Nash said. “I’ve blitzed, gotten sacks, made tackles in the open field, played man coverage and played the ball in the air.
“I don’t mind coming down and mixing it up in the box. I feel like that’s something they really like, along with my football IQ.”
The Bellflower, Calif., native said Notre Dame did not provide a timeline for an offer, but made its interest clear and outlined what comes next.
“I definitely want to get out there in the spring and this summer,” Nash said. “Go to camp, hopefully get to a game this year, and just build that relationship.
“It’s a place where I know I could be successful outside of football and grow as a man and in my faith.”
Nash remains early in the process and is keeping his options open as his recruitment continues to expand. His offer sheet currently includes schools like UCLA, Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, Ohio State, Kansas, Maryland and Missouri among others.
“I’m just getting into the second semester of my sophomore year. I’m keeping everything open right now and letting it all play out.”
