Notre Dame will host a priority offensive line target later this month when Cameron Wagner‍ returns to South Bend for the program’s Junior Day.

Wagner confirmed plans to be on campus March 21 as part of a busy spring visit schedule that will take him to several national programs.

“I just want to see kind of the day in the life as a Notre Dame football player and see if I can really envision myself being there and spending my four years of college there,” the 2027 Illinois offensive lineman told Irish Sports Daily.

Wagner has already made multiple trips to South Bend.

Those visits helped establish bonds that continue to draw him back to campus.

“Having a really good relationship with the coaches,” Wagner said. “Honestly, I have a really good relationship with their 2026 class, the guys that are already there, and then some like James Halter‍, the 2027 lineman who’s committed.

“I just feel like those guys I can see myself playing with.”

Those connections began forming during earlier recruiting visits.

“Being at the same visits as them last year and then Coach (Joe) Rudolph getting me in contact with them,” Wagner said.

Those relationships have continued to grow since those visits.

“I feel like we’re kind of all the same personalities,” Wagner said. “We all mess around, have the same type of humor and are just kind of the same type of guys.”

Wagner and Halter have grown close over the past several months.

“I just feel like over the recruiting process we got to know each other pretty well just being in the same places as each other,” Wagner said. “It’s kind of the same thing. We’re similar guys and we just click.”

Wagner holds offers from Auburn, Boston College, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin among others.

He plans to visit several programs this spring before narrowing his list, including Auburn before South Bend with Ohio State, Oregon, Wisconsin and Illinois afterward.

Following those trips, Wagner expects to move toward the next stage of the recruiting process by narrowing his list and setting official visits.

He’s built strong relationships with several members of the Notre Dame staff.

“Probably Coach Rudolph and then Coach (Marcus) Freeman and Coach (Rob) Delaney,” Wagner said.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pounder pointed to Rudolph’s style as something that stands out.

“Just the way he teaches and the way he coaches,” Wagner said. “I feel like he’ll get on you when you’re not doing something right, but then he’ll love you.”

Delaney, the assistant offensive line coach, has also made a strong impression.

“I don’t know if friends is the right word, but we have a really good relationship and we just get along really well,” Wagner said. “Same thing again, he’s a great coach and great teacher of the game.”

Wagner added that his family has enjoyed getting to know Freeman as well.

“He’s just a great dude overall, really well spoken. He’s really good with my family and everybody really loves him.”
