Julian Caldwell‍ is preparing for his first trip to Notre Dame.

The 2027 Texas wide receiver will travel to South Bend for Junior Day this weekend as the Irish take their shot at moving up Caldwell’s list of options.

The Argyle standout holds offers from Notre Dame, Texas, Oregon, Texas Tech, SMU, Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, Oklahoma and USC among many others.

The visit came together through consistent contact with the Irish staff as the relationship continued to develop and will offer him a chance to return to his mother’s home state.

“I’ve got a lot of family up in Indiana who are big Notre Dame fans,” Caldwell said. “I think it’s a great opportunity.”

The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder has primarily been communicating with wide receivers coach Mike Brown and head coach Marcus Freeman.

“Coach Brown’s a cool guy,” Caldwell said. “He’s calm and collected and knows what he’s talking about. I think he’s a coach who could really develop me.”

Freeman has also made a strong early impression.

“He’s a great guy,” Caldwell said. “He’s real genuine and you can see it on the field. All the guys play for him and I think he does a great job.”

Notre Dame’s culture and track record of developing players have resonated as the recruitment continues to evolve.

“They’ve had a lot of Texas guys go there and succeed,” Caldwell said. “They develop guys and put people in the NFL.”

The upcoming visit will give Caldwell a chance to experience the campus environment firsthand.

“It’ll be good just to see the campus and the training facilities because this will be my first time seeing any of that,” Caldwell said.

“Getting to see the coaches in person and watching how the players practice will help me get a feel for everything.”

Caldwell already has official visits scheduled with SMU, Texas Tech, Oregon and Texas as he works through a busy summer schedule.

A strong visit to South Bend could land the Irish on that official visit docket.

“If we have a great visit it could definitely be a possibility.”
