Notre Dame made a lasting impression on Trey Finney‍ and backed it up with an offer.

The Irish extended an offer to the 2028 Texas wide receiver during his visit to South Bend this weekend, giving the Willis High School standout another major addition to his growing list and immediately positioning the Irish as a program to watch.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pounder came away impressed with how the visit was structured from the moment he arrived on campus.

“I think the layout was perfect,” Finney said. “I think how the coaches came out and talked to us, the whole presentation was beautiful.”

That organization and clarity carried throughout the day, giving Finney a full look at both the football side and overall approach Notre Dame takes with its players.

Finney’s meetings with wide receivers coach Mike Brown were among the key takeaways.

“I think he’s an amazing coach,” Finney said of Brown. “I got one-on-one time with him and he really touched my spirit. He’s a great developer too.”

Head coach Marcus Freeman’s message also resonated, particularly the emphasis on life beyond football.

“Coach Freeman kicked it off with a beautiful presentation,” Finney said. “Not a lot of coaches talk to you like a person. They talk from a head coach standpoint. He really hit on the personal side and life after football.”

That balance between football and long-term development highlighted the trip.

Meanwhile, the offer reinforced the Irish’s interest in him and gave Finney something tangible to take away from the trip.

Finney is still in the early stages of his recruitment, but Notre Dame’s approach, combined with the opportunity to build relationships with the staff, has put the Irish firmly in the mix.

He’s already saying a return visit in the future is likely.

He doesn’t really want to see anything new when he gets back, but he does want to continue building those relationships and get another look at the program in a different setting.

In the meantime, Finney is continuing to work through a busy spring schedule.

He has upcoming visits planned to SMU and Oklahoma State after already making stops at Texas Tech and Baylor.
