Whenever it looks like there’s cause for concern at a position in recruiting, Notre Dame has been able to find solutions. The staff had to pivot their 2027 recruiting plan when QB Teddy Jarrard‍ reclassified to the 2026 class. They’ve now found their 2027 quarterback in Wonderful Monds IV‍ , who coincidentally reclassified from the 2028 class.

Monds shined as a true freshman, but unfortunately missed most of the 2025 regular season with an ankle injury. He returned later on and looked like the same big time prospect.

He’s thrown for 2,925 yards passing on 68.3% completions with 30 touchdowns against five interceptions in 17 games. He also added 10 touchdowns as a runner and he’s a dangerous player in that respect as well.

A talented thrower with outstanding traits, Monds is a massive addition to Notre Dame’s 2027 recruiting class.

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 224

Projected Position: Quarterback

ISD Grade: 92 (4-star)

National Average Grade: 90.0 (4-star)

What he does best:

Monds has big time arm talent. He’s making throws to the far sideline from the opposite hash as a freshman and he can push the ball down the field with ease.

His deep ball accuracy is impressive. There are numerous throws where he drops it in the bucket like this.

And others where he puts it on the receiver’s back shoulder.

He has the ability to shake off tackles and escape the rush. That's an essential part of the position.

He can put touch on the ball when he has to and can deliver the football through tight windows with zip or by layering his throw.

He ran for 502 yards as a freshman and has true dual-threat ability. He can do damage scrambling and on designed runs.

What he needs to improve

Everyone needs to put their 10,000 hours in to get better and the biggest detractor for Monds is a relative lack of experience because of missing most of his sophomore season and then reclassifying. It’s going to be important he has a full senior season before he gets to Notre Dame.

He looked more poised in the pocket in his limited reps in 2025 and that should only look better the more games he plays.

What’s his ceiling?

The only reason he isn’t ranked higher at the moment is because of the time missed last season and the fact that he reclassified. He was one of the top ranked quarterback prospects in the 2028 class and I think he has the talent to end up as one of the top ones in the 2027 cycle.

He already checks the right boxes with his size and has the kind of physical traits that set him apart from so many other quarterbacks. Gaining experience matters, but he has all of the tools to develop into an elite college quarterback.

Who he could be:

Former UNC QB Drake Maye

Men's Fanatics Olive Notre Dame Fighting Irish OHT Defender Polo
