Notre Dame Checks A Lot Of Boxes For 2028 NJ QB Trey Tagliaferri
Trey Tagliaferri wasn't waiting around for anybody.
As it turns out, he didn't have to wait much longer for Notre Dame either.
On Wednesday night, the 2028 New Jersey quarterback received an offer from the Irish.
The offer adds another national power to an already loaded list that includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas A&M, Stanford and North Carolina among others.
Prior to the offer being extended, Tagliaferri told ISD the offer would “mean a lot.”
For Tagliaferri and those closest to him, Notre Dame's entrance into the race isn't necessarily about adding another logo. It's about adding a program that checks many of the boxes already his agent, Latish Kinsler, always establishes as priorities.
“Trey values all offers, so I wouldn't say that he values this offer more than any other,” Kinsler told Irish Sports Daily. “But when you're a Northeast athlete, Notre Dame is always one of the consummate programs when you think about the academic standards and you think about the athletics and the history.”
The offer also carries significance for Tagliaferri's family.
“His father definitely is a huge Notre Dame fan,” Kinsler said, although also noting that won’t have any impact in the ultimate decision.
Tagliaferri made his first visit to South Bend for the Blue-Gold Game in April, along with Kinsler. Notre Dame clearly made a strong impression on the Bergen Catholic standout.
Tagliaferri, who visited Texas and Oklahoma last weekend, is now sorting through a growing list of options.
“The fortunate part for Trey is that the majority of his recent offers are those particular programs,” Kinsler explained. “It does give us an opportunity to evaluate Notre Dame similarly as we've done with the other programs. It's definitely a program that makes sense.”
Tagliaferri had been focused on the schools that had offered and Notre Dame will be evaluated the same way.
“He's going to look at the program through a different lens since he does have an offer from Notre Dame now,” Kinsler said. “Just to see what aligns with all the things that are important to him and just to continue communication with the staff and things of that nature for Trey.”
That communication already includes a connection with quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli.
Kinsler and Guidugli have an interesting, if peripheral, connection.
“Both myself and Gino played at Cincinnati,” Kinsler said. “We didn't play together, but we wore the same number. We both were 15.
“He's definitely a very good coach and again, we just look forward to continuing the relationship.”
A return visit to South Bend isn't scheduled at the moment, but Kinsler indicated that could change as Tagliaferri moves closer to making a decision.
“When we get closer to the timeframe of Trey committing, if he feels that he needs to get back on campus again, then that's something that we would look into,” Kinsler said.
That timeframe is likely to come within the next couple of months as quarterback recruiting continues to accelerate across the country.
“The timeline has definitely sped up for '28 quarterbacks. We just want to make sure that whenever the decision is made, it's not a rushed decision. It's a decision that he's thought out thoroughly and discussed with his family, with his representation, with his high school coach and then he's going to make the decision and hit the ground running.”
