2019 Orange Lutheran (Calif.) quarterback Ryan Hilinski traveled to the East Coast over the weekend to camp at Boston College and the 6-foot-4, 218-pounder left with an offer from the Eagles.
“It was unbelievable,” Hilinski said of the trip. “I have family in Wellesley, which is about five minutes from campus, so I stayed with them the night before camp.
“The camp lasted the whole day, and we practiced on the women’s soccer field because they are doing stadium renovations. After the camp, the coaching staff wanted me to meet the head coach, so my dad and I went to the football stadium.
“I met with the head coach, and he offered me.”
Notre Dame has also taken notice of the rising junior and Hilinski will in South Bend this weekend for Irish Invasion.
“Coach Tom Rees contacted my head coach, Jason Presley, and expressed his interest in me,” stated Hilinski. “I called him one day, and he showed a lot of love. He invited me to Irish Invasion, and we have stayed in contact. It’s a really good relationship right now.
“I know Coach Rees is one of the most prestigious coaches out there and he will put me in a position to succeed at the college level and with life after football. It would be tremendous if they pulled the trigger.”
If Hilinski earned an offer from the Irish, it would put Notre Dame in the driver’s seat for the California native. Hilinski grew up watching the Irish from a young age, and the family pet is named in honor of Notre Dame.
“Notre Dame has been the school my family has watched since I was five,” said Hilinski. “Our dog is named after Notre Dame. I love Notre Dame. My brother camped there for football when I was younger. I went there with my mom, and we stayed at the Morris Inn. We loved it at Notre Dame.
“An offer from Notre Dame would blow my mind. I want to stay level-headed, but Notre Dame would be pretty awesome.”
Hilinski will be busy over the next couple weeks as Boston College and Notre Dame aren’t his only camps. In fact, he will be in just about every part of the country over in a matter of days.
“Texas A&M has been after me for a month,” explained Hilinski. “They told me to come out to camp, and that’s where I am flying to right now. I am going to go to their QB/WR camp this week.
“After Notre Dame, I will be going to USC for a camp. There will be other coaches there like Michigan. Everything is moving along smoothly right now.”
Hilinski is also not a stranger to the recruiting process as his brother, Tyler, is a quarterback at Washington State. Through his brother’s experiences and his own, Hilinski does have a good idea of what he is looking for early in his recruitment.
“I am a huge academic guy, and I finished with a 4.0 GPA,” said Hilinski. “Personally, our family are huge Catholics as well, but academics are first and foremost. I want to experience a good community that all the colleges point out and it will help me make my decision during my junior year.”
