2019 receiver Mekel Ealy will make the trip from Oakley (Calif.) to South Bend this weekend for Irish Invasion. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder doesn’t quite know what to expect on his visit, but he is ready to experience what Notre Dame has to offer.

“I am pretty excited to get up to Notre Dame for camp,” Ealy told Irish Sports Daily. “I have received a few things about the camp and stuff from Notre Dame.

“I wanted to come out to Notre Dame for the experience. I want to see how everything is out there.”

Ealy was a large part in leading his Freedom squad to an 11-2 record last fall, and he has also been working on his game this offseason to become a complete player.

“My speed and height are my strengths right now,” he stated. “I am focusing on accelerating at the top of my  breaks on my routes."

Regarding his recruitment, Ealy is looking for his first offer, but several schools are keeping close tabs on him.

“Washington is the school coming after me the hardest,” explained Ealy. “I haven’t visited yet, but I am going on a visit to Washington in July.

“I don’t have any other visits planned right now.”

Oregon was a program Ealy has always had his eye on, and an offer from the Ducks would mean a lot to the California native.

“Growing up, I always wanted to get an offer from Oregon,” stated Ealy. “Just being young and not knowing stuff, I liked their uniforms and their style of play.”

As his recruiting process gets going, Ealy is simply looking for a fit within the offense at this stage.

“I am looking for a balanced offense so that I can catch some passes,” said Ealy. “That’s about it right now.”
