2019 Lexington (Ohio) linebacker Cade Stover picked up his offer from Notre Dame earlier this week, and it was one the four-star prospect had been waiting on.
“I had to call my Athletic Director, and he’s good friends with the Notre Dame staff,” Stover told Irish Sports Daily. “He told me I had to call coach Mike Elston and he offered me from there.
“It’s a big one to pick up. Notre Dame has always been great at football. It’s a great offer to receive.”
Stover was in South Bend last fall as the Irish hosted Stanford. The Mansfield native witnessed Notre Dame drop the game but overall had a good experience on campus.
“They lost, which wasn’t very good,” laughed Stover. “It was a great visit. They are kind of in the rebuilding process right now. It’s just a great place. The campus is beautiful.”
The Buckeyes hosted Stover for camp this past week and from all accounts, the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder turned heads in Columbus.
“I worked out at Ohio State this week,” stated Stover. “There were a bunch of great people down there I worked out with, and I learned a lot.”
With his size, Stover is on the verge of growing into a defensive end. The drop position is where Notre Dame see’s him and Stover is more than okay with getting after the quarterback off the edge.
“As of right now, I am being recruited as a linebacker by most schools,” Stover said. “Coaches don’t know what I am going to grow into or how big I am going to get. I can see myself growing into a defensive end too.
“I do feel completely comfortable coming off the edge. I would love to do that.”
Stover has a double-digit offer list with offers from the likes of Ohio State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech. The Buckeyes are the team to beat, but it could be a while before Stover commits.
“I am still pretty open,” said Stover. “Ohio State is up there, but Notre Dame is now up there. I am playing some basketball, and I have a farm, but I hope to get up to South Bend this summer. I’d love to get up to Notre Dame and get more of a feel for it.
“I want to have a decision before my senior year. I would like to know where I am going by then. It might be a while before I commit. I am going to take my time.”
