Notre Dame hasn’t had much success recruiting Cass Tech in recent years. It looked like that trend may have changed when the Irish landed a commitment from 2018 Cass Tech cornerback Kalon Gervin, but a few months later, Gervin backed off that pledge and is no longer considering Notre Dame.

Still, there’s no way the Irish are going to stop recruiting a powerhouse high school like the won Thomas Wilcher runs in Detroit.

Jalen Graham is among the next set of Cass Tech standouts to land on the radars of major college programs across the country. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound athlete already has several offers from schools like Missouri, Kentucky and Pittsburgh among others.

“It’s pretty fun,” Graham said of the early offers. “It’s pretty nice. I didn’t expect them to come this early, but it’s pretty nice to have them.”

Graham, who transferred to Cass Tech from Detroit Country Day, where he played quarterback. He , could also play in the secondary and at receiver in college and is being recruited as an offensive player and a defensive player by different schools.

“They just how I’m aggressive on both sides of the ball and how I’m a playmaker who’s always around the ball,” he said of college coaches.

He doesn’t have a preference of positions at this point and has no problem juggling both for now.

“I’ve been doing it for a while, so I’m kind of used to it,” he said.

Notre Dame is another school that has displayed some preliminary interest.

“I’ve talked to a coach a little bit,” he said. “I visited there with my team a while ago, but I want to get back down.

“We saw pretty much everything. We walked around campus. We saw some of the facilities. It was nice. It was really nice. I liked it a lot.”

Graham is hoping to see more if he gets the chance to return some time in the coming months.

“I want to see the field and the locker rooms,” he said. “On the first trip, we pretty much saw everything else and the campus was really nice.”

He already has an understanding of the tradition in South Bend.

“I just know as far as history goes, it’s arguably the best program for college football ever,” he said.

Gervin didn’t have anything bad to say about the Irish.

“He said it was a good school and everything,” Graham explained. “He just wanted a different fit for himself.”

Graham has already made some trips and hopes to make more.

“I’ve visited some with my team on a college tour, so I got to see some down South,” he said. “We got to Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Kentucky and different schools like that.

“I plan on going to Louisville soon and I still want to get down to Notre Dame and then maybe get out to visit Pittsburgh.”

Graham wants to major in Business and academics will play a major factor in his decision.

“Education is first. My parents are big on that, so I have to make sure that’s also a good fit for me.”
