Brandon Wimbush Notebook: Georgia

Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush waited two years to get his first start and now will have the chance to make a name for himself on Saturday night against Georgia.

On Georgia’s front seven:
“They look really good. They have some tough guys up front. I spoke last week to the guys (offensive line) their dedication last week, and I think they’ll be able to handle them up front, especially the front five. They are looking forward to the challenge, and they should be pretty successful.”

On Georgia’s experienced defense:
“It’s a really good front seven, and they have some young guys in the secondary, but returning ten players means a lot to a defense in terms of experience. They are going to understand what we are trying to do on offense. We are going to try to exploit the areas they don’t do as well in.

“Experience is huge, and they have chemistry with those ten guys.

On receivers:
“Guys are starting to earn their roles and spots on the field. We are getting better day by day, and the comradery is steadily growing.”

On who he modeled his game after:
“I struggle with watching people and trying to pick up things from them. Tiger Woods never watched any other golfer because he wanted to be the greatest.

“Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning – you try to pick little things up from those type of guys and try to put it your game. I have worked with Madei Williams for the past seven years, and he’s done a great job of getting me to where I am.”

On running ability:
“I think it comes naturally. Those guys are the guys who last right now in the league. The conventional guys and the drop back passers, but you see Aaron Rodgers utilize his feet when the play breaks down.

“I am able to do that, and I bring that to this team.”

On Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm:
“It’s a big deal for him. I don’t know much about Mr. Fromm, but I wish the best for him as he comes up to Notre Dame. I know it will be a big challenge for him going against our defense in front of 80,000 of our fans.”

On his mom living in Atlanta:
“She’s taking it all in week by week. She gets pretty excited. She works at a hospital in Atlanta, and there are a bunch of Georgia fans there. She gets to talk a little smack.”

On not making mistakes versus making plays:
“It comes with knowing yourself and your arm strength. You have to know the guy on the other end receiving the ball. You have to understand where they are going to be and hope they will be in the right place at the right time.

“You don’t want to make bad decisions, and I know this secondary is really good and athletic. I am going to take that into consideration when I make some of these throws.”

On Georgia being a measuring stick:
“Every week is a big test for us. It’s a marquee opponent. Georgia is coming into our home, so we have to protect our house. We’ve been preparing for this for the past nine months.”
