INTEL: Elite 2020 WR Talks Tate Tie
Gee Scott Jr. doesn’t know much about Notre Dame yet, but the 2020 Washington wide receiver from the state of Washington will learn more about the program and the school when he takes an unofficial visit to South Bend this weekend.
Scott Jr. may not know much about Notre Dame yet, but he has had the chance to be around at least one person who knows plenty about Notre Dame.
That’s Scott Jr. as a youngster playing catch with former Irish star Golden Tate.
Scott Jr.’s father, Gee Scott Sr., is a host on Seattle’s ESPN 710 Radio affiliate, but before he got that gig, he used to clean cars, including many of the cars owned by Seattle Seahawks.
Sometimes, he’d bring his son along and that’s how Scott Jr. got to know Tate.
“If I remember one thing, he had a work ethic about everything; whether we were playing video games or little competitions like throwing the football outside, he was going 110 percent,” Scott Jr. said.
Scott Jr. had even greater access this past summer, when he worked in the Seahawks’ equipment room.
“I took big things away from that,” he said. “Not even really about the game, but the mental and what it takes to be on that level and what separates good from great. Talent can only take you so far. Everybody is good in the NFL, so it’s going to be the little things that make the difference.”
Tate hasn't been shy about getting in the ears of recruits over social media like he did with Kevin Austin Jr. earlier this summer, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him get in Scott Jr.'s ear either.
Already considered an elite prospect, Scott Jr. has early offers from Oregon, UCLA, Utah, Colorado and Eastern Washington. It’s very early in his recruiting process, but with his first trip to Notre Dame coming up, he certainly thought back to Tate.
“Maybe Golden Tate and I are both Irish Men.”
