Martini and Morgan Not Satisfied

After an impressive showing against Miami of Ohio, the defense led by Nyles Morgan and Greer Martini is ready to take on their next challenge. The duo has been the backbone of the defense from a both mental and physical standpoint this season, and the group has made impressive strides, so far.

This week, the Irish face their next challenge against North Carolina and their young and mobile quarterback, Chazz Surratt. However, this Notre Dame defense is very familiar with dual-threat quarterbacks.

“Yeah, I think it helps a lot, especially seeing Brandon and Ian and those guys that can move really well,” stated Martini. “For us, it is just we’ve seen that a lot throughout playing our offense, and we’ll be comfortable with playing a quarterback like that.”

The familiar threat may aid the defense and their impact on Saturday, but the question many have is, are they satisfied?

“I think we are satisfied,” explained Martini. “But we’re always like – we always want to get better. We know each week with the rest of our schedule we have to continue to get better because we’ve got a tough schedule coming ahead of us.”

On the other hand, Nyles Morgan the other captain of the defense had his own stance on the progress of the defense.

“Never satisfied,” said Morgan. “We are satisfied, but we’re never satisfied.”

Morgan’s explanation may not have been as informative as Greer Martini’s, but it is clear both, in their own way, are focused on the road ahead. Notre Dame has a tough schedule ahead of them, and it will challenge this team mentally and physically till the end of the season.

It will be important for both Morgan and Martini to lead through experience and never truly be satisfied if this team is going to reach the lofty goals and expectations of a fan base starving for success.
