Quick Update: 2018 TN ATH Alontae Taylor
2018 Coffee County Central (Tenn.) athlete Alontae Taylor will take his official visit to Notre Dame this weekend, but the four-star prospect needed to take care of business last night before he got to South Bend. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder rushed for 300 yards and six touchdowns last night in a 63-6 win. Taylor is now over 6,000 career rushing yards for his career.
Taylor is still committed to Tennessee but the Irish have a legitimate shot at flipping him. If you remember, Taylor picked up the Notre Dame offer and less than two days later had an official visit set.
The visit is simple for Taylor, he wants to experience the culture, big game atmosphere and how the coaches interact with the players. He has developed a good relationship with Clark Lea over the past couple weeks and is intrigued by playing cornerback at the next level.
Notre Dame is the only school actively recruiting him specifically at cornerback, so it's not a secret this weekend will be significant in terms of explaining where he'd fit into the defense. The Coffee County Central standout told me he hopes to watch some film and see exactly how Mike Elko uses his cornerbacks.
It's not a stretch to think Taylor might not be 100 percent sold on the defensive side of the ball as it's very clear he is electric with the ball in his hands. That's what rushing for over 6,000 yards will do, but he's still very interested to see the plan the staff has for him in South Bend.
It will be crucial for Mike Elko, Todd Lyght and Clark Lea to show him how he fits and the plan to develop him. The need for cornerbacks is something Taylor will absolutely see, so this one could get interesting if Taylor approves of what he experiences and learns this weekend.
