2019 Michigan Safety In Awe At Notre Dame
Marcus Fuqua was in South Bend Saturday to watch #3 Notre Dame take on Wake Forest and despite it being his second visit, his break was taken away again.
“The first thing that I saw was the campus and it took my breath away, it was beautiful, even seeing it for the second time it was breath taking,” the 2019 Michigan safety expressed.
Upon his arrival, the Southfield, Mich., native was able to take his time and drive around checking out South Bend. When he was done with the registration process, he was able to revisit some of the things he saw during his prior visit, but he was also able to see some things he didn’t get to see during his last visit. The feeling of awe was intact even as Fuqua saw some stuff for the second time.
“We walked around and saw the outdoor facility, walked around the stadium, and also got to see the locker room,” explained Fuqua. “The campus, overall, was very nice. I already knew how big it was because I have been there, but it was nice seeing it again.
“Seeing all the football facilities stuck out to me the most this time because last time we only got to see the academic side.”
The Southfield High School standout holds 11 offers already from schools like Iowa State, Syracuse, Temple and Army among others. He pointed out one thing that was unique about Notre Dame.
“The locker room was just different, how it was set up and I have never been to a locker room that is inside the stadium,” he stated.
After his tour, it was time to watch the Irish in action and experience Notre Dame Stadium in full swing during game time and Fuqua was amazed.
“When they said it was sold out, I could tell,” he said. “It is different out there. The fans set the tone before the game and during the game, the fans and student section had everyone live the whole time.”
Even though the 3-star safety couldn’t stay for the whole game, he noticed Notre Dame’s dominance and really focused in on his position group.
“I didn’t get to catch the whole game because I had to go, but when I left they were up 24-10, but up until that point they were playing really good,” said Fuqua. “I focus on the DBs. I saw the pick and I focused on them the whole time.”
On top of a successful visit, seeing everything and experiencing the amazing atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium, Fuqua was able to talk to Notre Dame recruiters and hear some encouraging words.
“I got to talk to the recruiting coaches; I didn’t get to talk to any other coaches because I didn’t see the DB coach,” the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder said. “The recruiting coaches were happy to see me finally come down because they have been trying to get me to come down all year, but they just talked to about the recruiting process and told me what they liked.”
Fuqua doesn’t know exactly what is next between Notre Dame and him, but he definitely wants to get back in the near future.
“At this point, I don’t know. My coach and I are going to talk about it on Monday, but I am going to try and get back down there during the spring or the summer.”
