2020 Illinois DT Impressed With First Look At Notre Dame
Denver Warren was in South Bend to watch Notre Dame take on Navy and left impressed with every aspect of the visit.
“It was good, it was cold and wet, but it was a good game,” the 2020 defensive tackle said. “I got to see the locker room, sit in the lounge, meet a few coaches and talk to a few players after the game. It was really nice.”
The Illinois native did not get to tour the whole campus, but got to see the athletic facilities and he liked what he saw as well as the close-knit atmosphere he felt.
“We just toured the football facilities,” Warren stated. “It was nice, everything is high-end. The brotherhood, they have a good connection and everyone works together. The players’ lounge is also very nice how everyone can just chill in there.”
Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, the youngster couldn’t believe the attendance inside Notre Dame Stadium and thought the Irish played well.
“It was good,” the West Aurora standout expressed. “For it to be raining, it was packed still and everyone was on their feet screaming and cheering on the team. They played good, they all did their part, played their part and everyone all came together for a good team win.”
While watching the game, it was no surprise the future collegiate defensive lineman focused mostly on the defensive side of the ball, keying into two specific Irish standouts.
“Number 93 (Jay Hayes) on the d-line and number 48 (Greer Martini), he was really good and had 15 tackles,” Warren stated. “They all just blended together just to make sure they got the job done.”
To add to a successful visit, the sophomore standout was able to introduce himself to many Irish players and coaches. They left him with encouraging words.
“I didn’t get the coaches’ and players’ names, I just went around shaking a bunch of hands,” explained Warren. “I did talk to the d-line coach and he said, ‘Thank you for coming out,’ and that he would be in touch. That was real nice.
“They were just saying it was real nice there and it was like a brotherhood, they also said I was big and things like that.”
Going further, Warren would like to hear more from Notre Dame, but for now, he is just going to be patient.
“I hope to hear more from them, and hopefully to come back out,” he said. “I didn’t get an offer or anything, so I am just going to wait and see what happens.”
With the offseason here, the young defensive standout has time to plan a few visits to enhance his recruiting process and that is what he plans on doing.
“I have a few I am going to plan after my US Army Combine like Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee and Iowa.”
