At some point soon, there may not be many big-time offers left for Bryan Bresee‍ to pick up.

The 2020 Maryland defensive end added one from Notre Dame and another from Duke on Thursday to go with offers he already had from programs like Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech.

“His size for one,” Damascus High School assistant Gregg Frazier said of what’s caught the attention of college recruiters so early. “He’s 6-5, 260 pounds right now as a sophomore. His skillset is pretty complete. He’s got a great first step. He’s got a motor. He’s nasty. He’s got long arms.

“He went to a couple of those combine/camps before the season and went up against some big-time, blue-chip offensive linemen and the feedback I got was that he did really well and was a pretty dominant force against kids who were at least two years older than him. For his age, physically, he’s pretty far ahead of the game. He’s freakish. I’ve never really seen a kid who is like him at his age.”

Notre Dame assistant Clark Lea was in Damascus to check on Bresee, who is also a standout in the classroom.

“His parents are pretty tough on him about grades, they don’t mess around, which is a good thing,” Frazier said. “He’s a good teammate. He transferred to us last winter, so he was coming into a brand-new school with people he didn’t know.

“He fit right in with our kids in the locker room. It was no issue at all and it’s got to be tough when you don’t know these guys and you’re coming in with so much hype. He transitioned extremely well.”

Even with so many offers, Bresee has enough time to make a decision that he doesn’t need to be in any sort of rush.

“It’s just information-gathering right now,” his coach said. “He’s probably visited six or seven schools at this point. He’s going to spend the next couple months of the winter and spring visiting a couple he hasn’t seen, Notre Dame being one of those. Hopefully, by the time the spring rolls around, he’ll have enough information to at least say, ‘I kind of want to focus on these couple schools.’”

Frazier is confident Bresee will make it to South Bend.

“He’ll be out at Notre Dame, if it’s not this winter, it’ll be this spring,” he said. “It’s a big program, it’s an academic program. It’s Notre Dame. It’s a small enrollment as far as students. It’s one of the schools he’s been interested in. One of the schools that hadn’t offered him and he’d been interested in.”

In fact, the talented sophomore was trying to get out for a game this fall, but couldn’t make it work with his schedule.

“It’s a school he’s interested in for sure. You can’t beat the tradition at Notre Dame. He knows the defensive tackle from Maryland who is going there pretty well.”
