Cole Mabry‍ has had some good visits to Notre Dame in the past.

In fact, the 2018 Tennessee offensive lineman’s first trip resulted in him committing to the Irish just days later, but this past weekend’s official visit for Notre Dame’s banquet was different.

“It was awesome,” said Mabry. “It was the best trip to South Bend so far.

“I got to hang out with some guys I really hadn’t had a chance to hang out with yet, so I really liked that. The banquet was awesome. The coolest part was definitely walking out through the tunnel and it was snowing and everything. That was so cool.”

The Brentwood native enjoyed the opportunity to hang out with his fellow commits like offensive lineman John Dirksen, tight end George Takacs, defensive linemen Justin and Jayson Ademilola and others.

He also had a chance to spent time with offensive lineman Luke Jones, who is currently committed to Arkansas.

“Me, John and Luke hung out a ton too,” said Mabry. “Me and John were around him most of the weekend.

“I wasn’t trying to hard-sell it, but I was letting him know some of the good things about Notre Dame and hanging out. If he commits, he’s going to be around me and John for the next four to five years, so that’s really one of the most important things.”

Of course, the 6-foot-6, 270-pounder also enjoyed the food during the official visit.

“The food was awesome like really, really good,” he said seriously.  “The first night, we did the banquet. That food there was really good. After we walked through the tunnel in the stadium, we went up and had dinner in the box. There’s a big dining area and they had really good food there too.”

Fortunately for Mabry, he’ll have the chance to continue eating as he looks to bulk up for the collegiate level.

“I talked with (Director of Football Performance Matt) Balis. Once I sign, they’re going to send me a big packet of everything to do in the offseason. I also talked with the nutritionist about some of the things I could do right now for eating and putting on weight.”

Mabry is excited to sign with the Irish, which he’ll do during next week’s first-ever early signing period.
