Recruitment Rundown: It was almost over before it started. The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder made it clear Notre Dame was the program he grew up watching and cheering for, but Urban Meyer and Ohio State made a run at the five-star prospect. Jurkovec visited for the USC game in 2015 and was back on campus for Junior Day as a sophomore. After some rumblings that Ohio State was the choice, Jurkovec ended that speculation as he hopped in the car with his family to South Bend and committed.
The quote that defines the Jurkovec’s recruitment came from his father, Jim.
“I think the Golden Dome would need to burn down for Phil not to go to Notre Dame.”
Wayne head coach Jay Minton: "He's by far the best we've gone against ever. We had a pretty good one in (former Ohio State star) Braxton Miller, but I'll tell you what, some of the things that kid can do, he just wows you."
Trainer Bill Nichol: “It has been awesome to see him develop. He’s got all the attributes you need. He’s highly motivated, hardworking and humble. A lot of other kids, they have something big in their life and they talk. Phil is so humble with everything and he’s respectful.”
ISD expert Jamie Uyeyama: Jurkovec is an exceptional prospect that some have said is the best quarterback to come out of Western Pennsylvania since Dan Marino. He has earned that praised with his ridiculously high level of play on the field that led his team to a state championship. I can’t speak on how good Marino was in high school and it’s unfair to say that Jurkovec can reach the heights of Marino’s football career before he starts playing college football. Putting that aside, though, he is the best quarterback prospect the Irish are bringing in to the program since Jimmy Clausen.
Jurkovec took his game to another level this season with improved deep ball accuracy.
