Matt Farrell: “We have to get healthy and climb this ladder"

Will Notre Dame point guard Matt Farrell make his return on Saturday?

He very well could if all goes to plan over the next day.

“I’m a lot better, and it feels a lot better,” Farrell stated on Thursday. “I’ve been getting treatment, so it’s helping a lot.”

“I’ll go light today and do more tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll be ready.”

Notre Dame finds itself in unfamiliar territory as the Irish sit in 13th place the ACC at 3-6.

Farrell is embracing the underdog role and wants to write a special story during the final nine games of ACC play.

“This is fun,” stated Farrell. “We have to climb our way back, and we’re excited about it. We have a challenge, and I’m trying to get back as soon as I can.

“It’s a chance to climb back in and make a statement. We have to get these guys going, and we have schedule left where we can make moves to see what we can do.”

One reason the captain believes this is possible is the development of the younger guys on the team.

“They are playing really well,” Farrell stated. “They’re playing their asses off. It’s been hard to watch, but it’s been fun to watch. These guys are getting better. That’s what makes us so dangerous when we get healthy.

“We have to get healthy and climb this ladder.”

Notre Dame could use 15.7 points and 5.3 assists per game from its leader, but Farrell believes it starts with a mentality.

“We need to take every game as it’s a battle,” said Farrell. “Every single game we are going to war. We need to win every single game. That’s our mindset.”
