2018 Mission Viejo (Calif.) offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson‍'s life changed quite a bit in the last two months and on Wednesday, the four-star prospect signed with Notre Dame, ensuring further changes as he leaves the West Coast.

After decommitting from Arizona State in December, Patterson thought he’d end up at either Michigan or UCLA, but after an offer and an official visit to South Bend, his recruitment turned upside down.

The Irish didn’t have offensive line coach for a large portion of Patterson’s recruitment but the hiring of Jeff Quinn seemed to seal the deal.

“He’s a really good coach,” stated Patterson. “He showed me drills they ran at Cincinnati. What people don’t realize is that he’s been coaching the offensive line for a really long time. He’s familiar with Notre Dame, the staff and what they want to do.”

While Quinn played an important closing role, the culture and environment around Notre Dame was something Patterson fell in love with during his official visit.

“It didn’t matter if they were freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors, they all went really well together,” Patterson said. “It’s definitely a group of guys I could see myself hanging around. Also, just seeing the blend of education and football. Notre Dame is probably the best of both worlds in that aspect.

“The most impressive stat was that they graduated 98 percent of their football players. That shows that even though it’s obviously a difficult school that no matter who the guy is, they’re going to get the job done; they’re going to push him and care for him and help him graduate.

Patterson joins John Dirksen‍, Luke Jones‍ and Cole Mabry‍ in the 2018 offensive line class.
