ISD Video: Drew Pyne Dishes On ND, Decision & Cousin
More from my sitdown with Drew Pyne
Among other 2020 targets, Pyne told me he’s been after WR Gee Scott, WR Daniel Jackson, WR Jordan Johnson, OL Bryn Tucker, OL Paris Johnson, OL Turner Corcoran, OL Luke Wypler, S Darius Snow, RB Zach Evans, RB Marshawn Lloyd and DT Cole Brevard among others.
Where does he think he can improve the most?
“When people ask me that, I think I can get better all-around. There’s no one thing. Some things I’m better, some things I’m not as good at. I think all-around, I’ve got to get better in every sense of the game; on the board, progressions, knowing everything. I don’t think there’s really one thing I need to get better at, it’s more everything together. I’ve just got to work on every aspect of the game.”
What are New Canaan’s team goals for the fall?
“Coach Marinelli is unbelievable and he’s been here for 37 years and won 13 state titles. It’s ridiculous what he’s done here, so I’m very happy to be a part of it.
“We won three before I came here and when I won state my freshman, it was the fourth year in a row. Obviously, last year we were 9-3 and had some difficulties. We have really high expectations here, but I think now we’re focused on the first game. We’re all brothers. We don’t really have different classes, we’re all brothers. I think we’re more focused on the first game than anything, especially since we lost the first game last year. We’re going to work as hard as we possibly can. If a state championship comes out of that, so be it, but we’re more focused on the first game than anything.”
How has head coach Lou Marinelli helped his development?
“In eighth grade, obviously I was lucky enough to be offered by a couple big-name schools. When I came here, it was pretty hectic. Coach put me at the bottom of the depth chart and I had to come up and beat out some guys. He handled me great in everything that could possibly happen. It was unbelievable. He really molded me into a player my freshman year and into a man. This last year, my sophomore year, he made me a better player. This upcoming year, hopefully it’ll all translate into one big thing. I can’t thank him enough. He’s been unbelievable and his record really shows it too. I’m just really thankful to be a part of it.”
