He may not have an offer from Notre Dame yet, but Tirek Murphy Jr.‍ is definitely a name worth keeping an eye on.

Christ the King (N.Y.) head coach Jason Brown says he’s talked with a couple Irish staff members, including defensive coordinator Clark Lea, about his 2020 athlete.

“I spoke to two or three guys at Notre Dame,” Brown says.

“They were just talking about their program and stuff like that and how they’re interested in some of the guys we have.”

Brown expects the Irish to come check on Murphy and others at some point.

The 6-foot, 195-pounder already has offers from schools like Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Boston College, Cincinnati and Baylor among others.

“He’s a physical freak,” his coach says. “He has good balance. He catches the ball out of the backfield. He’s an every-down back. He’s not just an in-between the tackles. He’s electric as well. He’s versatile.”

That versatility has allowed Christ the King to move him all over the field.

“He’s played a little bit of linebacker, free safety and running back, but this year, he’s probably going to play running back,” Brown explains. “If we need him, we’ll probably put him on defense too.

“On the field, he’s a leader. He was a captain last year as a sophomore. That’s what people look at.”

And he’s also solid off the field, according to Brown.

“Grade-wise, he has a high GPA and he has a 1000 SAT as a sophomore,” He says. “He took it again, he’s trying to get 1200. He’s a very good student-athlete.”

Brown says Murphy has already made trips to Penn State, Syracuse and Rutgers and has plans to camp at Duke this summer.

The coach says he imagines Murphy would be interested in the Irish if they show interest in him.

“I would think so. I think he was invited to one of their camps. I’m not sure he’s reason for not going, but I think he was invited to one of their camps.”
