2021 Chaminade-Julienne (Ohio) cornerback Jason Ward‍ is a name several Midwest programs will keep close tabs on this fall, and Notre Dame’s staff got a close look at him on Saturday.

The 5-foot-9, 160-pounder was in South Bend for Notre Dame’s final Elite Skills Camp and was one of the better defensive backs in attendance.

“It was a good camp,” Ward told Irish Sports Daily. “I felt I competed well with the other kids. They have great coaches that taught me things I can take back to my high school and incorporate into my game.

“I was able to get better going against the competition they had.

Ward was able to get coaching from Terry Joseph and Todd Lyght during the camp, and they gave him some tips to emphasize as he prepares for his sophomore season.

“They told me I needed to work on high pointing the ball and making smoother transitions,” stated Ward. “I liked them. They were really cool when they were teaching us. I liked them a lot. They communicated well with all of us.”

The Ohio native hadn’t been on campus before, but he got the chance to see the campus before the camp.

“The campus was real nice,” Ward said. “They have a lot of history there. Before the camp, we got to tour the whole campus and see all the stuff there.”

As the summer winds down, Ward admitted Michigan had made an impression on him, but he also wants to get back to South Bend for another look at Notre Dame.

“I’m done with camps for the summer, but I might take a couple visits to schools later on,” said Ward. “I definitely want to get back to Notre Dame.”
