Decision Date Set For 2019 LB Tristan Sinclair

2019 San Ramon Valley (Calif.) linebacker Tristan Sinclair‍ has been a top target for Notre Dame and Stanford over the past few months and the four-star prospect will announce his commitment on August 1st. 

"I think the time has come and I know what is right for me," Sinclair told Irish Sports Daily. "The hardest choices are the biggest ones and this wasn’t an easy choice. I really loved a lot of schools but I know in my heart this one is the best for me.

Sinclair has been to South Bend twice in the last few months, which included an official visit at the end of June. 

“The trip was amazing,” said Sinclair. “There was a lot of fun time spent with the players and the coaches. I really got to know a lot of guys better and the coaches as well. It was amazing.

“It was really about spending time with them and talking.”

The visit allowed Sinclair to see what he needed to see from the Irish, as he is extremely familiar with the Stanford program as he lives in the area and his father played for the Cardinal. 

“I try not to be biased at all,” explained Sinclair. “Obviously, I have a great love for Stanford, but I’m a big Notre Dame fan too and Cal as well. I try to be unbiased and everything, but I guess you could say it plays a factor just because I’m so used to the program, but I wouldn’t say it plays a huge factor in my decision.”

Notre Dame is recruiting him for the Rover position and the plan is to fill the role of Drue Tranquill. ISD's Jamie Uyeyama watched Sinclair at Nike's The Opening last month and upgraded him from an 88 (three-star) to a 91 (four-star) prospect. 

"Notre Dame linebacker target Tristan Sinclair‍ went from 88 to 91 in my grades," explained Uyeyama. "While I still want to see improved recognition in zone coverage, his change of direction and acceleration to the football is at a unique level. He is an ideal fit for the Rover position."
