Tengwall Aware Of Good Counsel Pipeline To Notre Dame

Notre Dame has made a habit of bringing in loaded offensive line classes over the last few years under Harry Hiestand.

First-year offensive line coach Jeff Quinn has shown he can win tough battles for some of the nation’s top prospects in his first eight months on the job, but it’s never too early to get in the race.

2021 Good Counsel (Md.) offensive lineman Landon Tengwall‍ picked up an offer from Quinn over the weekend and is the first offensive lineman to earn an offer from the Irish in his recruiting class.

“We finished, and my coach got a call from Coach Quinn,” Tengwall told Irish Sports Daily. “My coach handed me the phone, and I got to speak with him for a little bit. He told me I had an offer from Notre Dame, so it was pretty cool. I can’t wait to meet him in person.”

The Good Counsel program has been kind to Notre Dame, and Tengwall is well-aware of the mini-pipeline to South Bend.

“It’s cool,” stated Tengwall. “Sam Mustipher is up there and our receiver, Cam Hart, is committed there. It’d be pretty cool if I decided to go there to keep the tradition going. The offer definitely means a lot.”

Notre Dame isn’t the first big-time program to offer the 6-foot-6, 300-pounder as Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee are just a few of the programs that have offered Tengwall.

“It’s pretty cool,” Tengwall said of his offer list. “It’s humbling, and you have to stay grounded. My family does a great job of helping, but if I have people praising me all the time, it’s not going to do anything for me.

“It’s great to have the offers, and it’s surreal to sit back and think about it, but I have to keep doing what I’m doing.”

The SEC offers catch some prospects off guard, but Tengwall wasn’t overwhelmed when they came in.

“I went on a swing down South to visit a couple of schools, so it wasn’t too surprising,” he explained. “I wouldn’t say I was expecting it, but it didn’t surprise me to get offered.”

When you watch the film, it doesn’t take long to see why over 20 programs have already offered as Tengwall is a physical player and moves well for his size.

“My strength is in the run game,” Tengwall stated. “I’m going to be bigger than almost every player I go against. I always want to improve my footwork and strength but also your pass protection. You always have to keep improving your technique going against defensive ends that are long, fast and athletic.”

As for visits this fall, Tengwall only has one visit locked in as Good Counsel will play most of its season on Saturdays.

“I’m going go to the Ohio State-Penn State game,” said Tengwall. “I’ll have to look at my schedule because we play a big schedule with games on Saturday, so it’s a lot harder for me to get to games. I think we only have two Friday night games this year.”
